Default Beaumont/Lamar University, please help!

Hey,
I may be coming to Beaumont for school and am wondering what the area is like for a mid-20 year old. I am active in triathlons and am worried about pollution/quality of the area. Is the crime bad in Beaumont? What is there to do for a young person? Also, I know this isn't everything, but the Lamar ratio of women to men is very high, do the ladies find it hard to get a date? Thanks!

There's other threads in this forum that can answer a lot of your questions. Crime isn't bad if you stay on the west end of Beaumont or live in Lumberton or mid-county. I think there's only been one murder in Beaumont this year. The Beaumont area just recently came into compliance with the EPA's ozone standards. Because the area is largely industrial the air isn't as clean as other area, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. As far as dating goes and things to do I don't really know so I'll let others comment on that.
