Southern Hidalgo or Cameron County TX
Looking to buy land or lot for 5th wheel in Southern Hidalgo or Cameron County TX. Want out of S.OKLA cause allergies are driving us up the wall . Figure wind off Gulf waters won't bring pollens, molds or dust mites . We are disabled and don't have much money, but really do need to move.

Yes, Harlingen, Mercedes and Weslaco are your best bets. Those are the mecca for people like you. Another place is RIVERBEND in a city called Brownsville.

Rio Grande Valley
Hello. There are dozens upon dozens of 55+ mobile home parks in the Valley. Some are gated for extra security. You can spend anywhere from $15,000 to over $100,000 for one, with monthly pad fees from $250.00 per month. We spend 6 months there every winter and really enjoy it. The summers can be very warm, so air conditioning is a must. Shopping is great as all the major stores are located in McAllen, as well as Miller airport. A lot of these parks have pads for 5th wheels and travel trailers. Hope you find what you are looking for.

helpaso, since you like birding, you ought to try Estero Llano State Park on fm1015. We went for the 1st time last week, and there are birds galore. I even got a pic of a 12+ foot alligator on the bank. I plan on fishing there next weekend to see if there are any cats!!

I'll rent you a luxury R.V. lot at the entrance to The World Birding

The Rio Grande Valley is not allergen-free by any means. Between dust and year-round pollen (not to mention Africanized bees and fire ants), if you have allergy problems, you won't stop sneezing just because you move to the Valley. The prevailing winds don't blow it away, they just move it around more.
Do check into public transportation before you move. You mention being disabled, and if that affects your mobility, living in the RGV could be difficult. When we lived there (moved away 8 years ago), there was essentially no public transportation within the cities, although there was a bus system that went the length of the Valley from one community to the next. If someone without a vehicle wanted to get around within a city, they either walked or took a taxicab.
Good luck to you in your move, and I hope you find a spot that works well for you.
