I graduated from Texas A&M in 2007 and College Station is very nice. The locals are good hard working people and there isn't too much crime in the area. There are a number of nice affordable subdivisions in Coll Station (Pebble Creek, Castlegate, Raintree, Emerald Forest and others I can't think of off hand). The nightlife scene is generally college oriented, but fun as the College kind of dominates the town. As far as k-12 schools, A&M consolidated is a pretty nice school from most accounts and the parents I have talked to seem happy with it

nice roads
world class university
affordable housing
highly educated people
the bad
small
not much in the performing arts
very hot in mid/ late summer
about 120 miles from the ocean
