It's been quite a few years since I lived in Wichita Falls, but the only people that I knew who worked at Ft Sill lived in Burkburnett, which is a bedroom community about 10 miles N of Wichita. It was very pleasant 20 years ago, but I don't know what it is like now. It would shave at least 20 minutes each way off your commute versus living in SW Wichita.

Another place to potentially look at is Duncan, OK. I think it has a good bit less crime than Lawton.

Agree. Is still a sleepy little town. I don't like going to WalMart, but if I really needed something, would go over to theirs as it was friendly and never busy.

We'll be staying in Burkburnett during our visit next week. We only have one car, though, and are more urbanites anyway so I think we'll still try to find something in WF and hope that the bus system will be sufficient and maybe walk/bike it too. Thanks so much for the continued feedback!

Do you do bike rallies, etc? If so, I have a friend there who is in a large group of serious cyclers there....be glad to get you the info. Also, WF has a major rally in August....google "Hotter'n Hell Bike Rally" - aptly named - usually not more than 1 or 2 people have heart attacks during the ride each year, tho. Crazy people IMO!!!

LOL! I've heard of that crazy race and can't wait to see part of it from the sidelines. Neither of us is into biking right now but it's something we're interested in picking up - largely because I read how big cycling is there and how great TX roads are. Also, I don't drive so am hoping a bike might help me if the bus lines are really limited (umm...not sure how to handle winter with a bike, though) Can't imagine either of us getting into hardcore biking but we're both into the idea of recreational riding. Thanks for the offer! I'll keep it in mind "if" either of us decides to get crazy

Just watch out for when the sky turns green. Happens a lot in Wichita Falls.

I spent several months there for training at Shepard AFB. I liked the area (My hometown is a couple hours east, so I'm a little biased).

I was there for the big tornado in 1979! Very green indeed!
