I've heard people refer to Dallas as a mix between Southern and Midwestern. I think it's more southern but meh

OK, Texas is Texas. Seriously, I think it depends on where you're talking about in Texas. The panhandle plains and West Texas don't seem the least bit Southern to me, more Southwest like New Mexico. East Texas is very old South. I've lived in the Midwest and it felt different from Texas to me.

Most white Texans pull towards the southwest or it's just Texas but my son tells me all of the black Texas rappers say they represent the south, so is it a racial preference as to where you feel your state belongs, I think it should be with the south because if I started an Atlanta vs a Texas city thread on here well if anyone started a Texas vs anything thread on here all HADES would break loose because of all the southern cities Atlanta is the closet to being like Houston or Dallas, please don't take these as fighting words because they are not I know how proud you all are of your state i'm just trying to make a point.

I don't think southern people talk that way. I've never heard a Texan say, "souf." Ugh!! When TexasReb gets in on this thread (although I think he's pretty sick of the subject), he will convince your friend Texas is the south. If you were to look at some old threads, you can read all about what people think about Texas being southern or whatever.

I found the thread; here is the link:

Midwest????? Heaven forbid.

Texas is partly Southern, partly Western, depending on which piece of this big ole real estate you're talking about.

I'd say its most Northeast with some Canadian flavor

Just kidding, isn't there like a 100 page thread somewhere devoted to this subject? The basic consensus was that Texas is a mix of different cultures and no region in Texas is exactly the same as the other.

Show a map of Texas anywhere in the world and people immediately know it's Texas. I understand that many don't "get" that but it's the way it is. It's not a matter of "Texas pride", it is just Texas.

The panhandle cuts into Oklahoma but they don't consider themselves 'Okies', East Texas is much like the deep south but they don't consider themselves 'deep south', West Texas is much like the terrain of New Mexico/Arizona but they sure don't consider themselves 'western USA'. It doesn't get more 'south' that the Valley, but that is nothing like Florida.

Texas is Texas - we could be four states and then fight about what is the designation of each of those states but that's not the case. Let all the other states label themselves as "South/West/Mid-West".

We will stick with what we are ... some of all of those in a land called Texas.
