I wonder if they would give refunds or vouchers for the millions of people that would have to get new drivers licenses and license plates for their cars when the states divide..

Hopefully. This would also solve the problem of that ugly driver license they are about to introduce.

[sarcasm]I've got an 8x10 picture of the USA actually allowing Texas to secede, alleged legalities or not.[/sarcasm] Ain't gonna happen. As much as I admire Staubach as a football player, I wouldn't want to live under his political sway. Way too conservative for me.

Don't worry, they'll find a way, no matter how many Dems in the state house they have to arrest.

If you can locate the five state split in the Texas Constitution then it is true,if you can not then it is false.
A Revised Texas Constitution
The present Texas Constitution was adopted in 1876 and has been amended many times, in ways that have made it a confused mess, containing much that does not belong in a constitution. A revised constitution is being drafted for consideration by the voters.

The best part is that we could have five different restaurants all lay claim to "Best Bar B-Q in Texas." One per state.
And think about how many high school football state champions we'd have then!

Texas cannot split into 5 new states. It can split into 4 new states, keeping the original state as a smaller state.
The right to do so was in the treaty of annexation of 1845. However, whether this treaty is still valid after Texas' secession and readmission into the union is an interesting question. Splitting Texas would lead to some interesting results: the South Texas area along the border would result in 2 Democratic senators for sure. The only question is how far north does it stretch? Are San Antonio or Austin included? Is CC included? Is El Paso included?
An Austin-San Antonio state could result in 2 Democratic senators. North Texas could elect Democratic senators if it were largely Dallas and not the FW area or the rural surroundings. The Houston area could elect Democratic senators. The only solidly Republican areas are West Texas as well as East Texas, which could be split among two or even three states.
Gerrymandering would make a big difference. But there's less than a snowball's chance in hell of this happening. People love Texas too much.
