Smile moving to Sherman

I am from Colorado, and I am moving to the Sherman area. Any advice on areas to live? Is it a safe community? Any bias against someone from Colorado?

Sherman is a very nice town.....it is almost as one with Denison, so the two are really just one big town. A lot of new retail and restaurants have been built along the highway between the two towns just in the past few years - they have most of the usual chain places anybody could need. The nicer and newer sections of Sherman are in the west and southwest part of town. There is very little crime in the area altho there is a faily high rate of alcoholism (accounts for lots of car accidnets). Denison is a little rougher than Sherman, little lower income, little closer to Oklahoma, Lake Texoma and the tourism.

Can't imagine why there would be prejuice against anyone from Colorado! Because of the large TI plant there, as well as two colleges, and many retirees (because of Texoma and a now-closed AF base), there are people from many parts of the country living there. Also, it is a medical center (two hospitals and many medical clinics) so there are a number of people employed there from other countries. There are many people who live in Sherman and commute to the north Dallas area.

I don't think you should have any problems being from Colorado living in Sherman. I grew up in Denison which is not far north of Sherman and lived in Sherman for a while. I don't really think that people care where anyone else is from. I haven't really heard much about crime lately in Sherman, although I have stopped watching the news every day too. I think most of what goes on in Sherman is the typically dumb-criminal news. I can tell you that the houses are nicer in the N, NW, and W side of Sherman. The S and E side, while having some beautiful historic older homes, also have some issues, mostly from the older homes that aren't designated as historic not being kept up for whatever reason.

All in all, I feel that Sherman is a better choice than Denison to live. I would say if you are considering living more toward Denison, I would seriously reconsider. Like I said, I grew up there and there is a reason I dont live there now. I wish you the best of luck!

I may be a little late posting here, but Sherman is a great area. It has most of the needs of a large city, but still has the smaller town feel. I think the population is around 40k-45k now. The west side of Sherman would be the ideal place to find a house. That's where I live . I commute to McKinney (North Dallas area) everyday for work, its not bad at all. Also, there wouldn't be any problems with you being from CO. Most people are very nice and generally accepting. If you want any more information feel free to direct message me.
