I don't see nukes ever being used because there would be no winner, Everyone would die.

Third, What good will a nuclear strike in a country like Russia or China do when they've already invaded the U.S. ? There troops would already be here.

Not trying to sound like a nut but I really find it hard to believe that anyone can have any confidence that we'll never be attacked just because we have nukes. 9-11 happened without a nuclear strike.
Are you talking about a full-scale land invasion by a well-armed army or are you talking about a tiny little isolated incident like 9/11? Because if you're talking about a major invasion then yes, I am very confident that our nuclear arsenal would discourage such an attack. And if it were to occur the host country of such an attack would pay a very heavy price indeed.

Think of it. Would China, Iran or Russia ever even contemplate such an attack if they knew their entire society would be totally annihilated if they did attack? And if both societies would be wiped out then yes, there would be no winners. That's the nature of this type of warfare. If this scenario sounds bleak know that it is meant to. So that in our weaker moments like today where we struggle economically that no one would even begin to think about messing with us.

The mutual destruction that would surely result from any nuclear attack is the reason why no country has been insane enough to launch one...so far. What worries me most are all the countries formed from the USSR when it broke up which have nuclear weapons. I fear that what will eventually happen is that Israel and the surrounding countries will get into a nuclear war, drawing in the rest of the world. All those looking forward to the 'end times' will have them.

The talk of secession and the amount of people, states, governors, that talk about are making more of a reality. Could it happen? Yes! Will it maybe not. But the country if history proves itself is due for a revolution. Is it america where everyone can have an opinion and a free voice YES. But if you do futher research online and really watch the news. The american military high ranking military officers said they would not excercise any ORDERS to police the American people. They would not do it. So sending in the marines army etc to police and restore a state just won't happen. The american military is RESTRICTED from policing there own. A suspension of habeus corpus and martial law would have to be declared for that to happen. IMAGINE the revolt and chaos that would cause. Just my opinion.

Default Do you think Texas will ever leave the USA?

My friend has been reading up on US politics and he says that your country is really DIVIDED on so many things, mainly along the lines of GOP/Conservative vs DNC/Liberal?

He thinks that as Texas is Conservative and as the Government is Liberal, that there is a good chance of Texas leaving the USA? Any truth to this?

I personally think if any state left it would be South Carolina, they like to start stuff lol but in all seriousness is there any desire for Texas to become independent?

Absolutely NONE its a redneck fantasy! There is no provision in the US Constitution for secession but rednecks like the myth that Texas can break off.

Any guess where Texas would be in literacy and crime if it broke off?

ocean2026,

Where the Constitution does speak to the issue of powers, they resolve in favor of the states unless expressly granted to the federal government or denied to the states. No power to prevent or reverse secession is granted to the federal government, and the power to secede is not specifically denied to the states; therefore that power is retained by the states, as guaranteed by the 10th Amendment.
The Texas v. White case is often trotted out to silence secessionist sentiment, but on close and contextual examination, it actually exposes the unconstitutional, despotic, and tyrannical agenda that presumes to award the federal government, under color of law, sovereignty over the people and the states.

Learn your history before you talk about it and learn more about Texas before you make comments.
Texas could survive without the Federal Government.

GOD BLESS TEXAS AND OUR MILITARY
ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES & LET THE BATTLE BEGIN

Its not going to happen. Maybe Texas "could" succeed, but they wont.

Texas succeeding is overall very unpopular among Texas residents particularly in the cities. There was a man who ran on the succession platform last election and he got around 5% of the total vote.

With the demographics of Texas changing very rapidly (i.e. becoming alot less white), the platform is only going to become less popular.

There is a man who is running this time around on that platform. He also wants to outlaw pornograhy. He wont get far.

No. Not going to happen. If I'm not mistaken, I think the whole ridiculous theory came up because of a stupid comment made by our governor, Rick Perry, which the media and right wing radicals had a field day with.

I would also have to agree with LAnative10 that "Texas is changing very rapidly (i.e. becoming a less white)" and it seems that the Liberal/Democratic Party is growing here as well.

I think you mean secede, not succeed. (LOL) Texas is a successful state, by the way.

And folks, Texas is not going anywhere, no matter what anyone tells you. Our statehood will remain intact.
