Amen, Catman!! Your favorite part of Texas (Far West) is also mine - but I also really like Pecos (it's my favorite small town in Texas) with The West of the Pecos Museum (Est. 1963) at the corner of 1st & Cedar in Downtown Pecos & Alfredo's Mexican Restaurant on the East side of Pecos on South Cedar Street (Est. 19??).

I've been to Pecos before and liked it well enough. I didn't stay long enough to really explore it. Isn't that where the statue of the roadrunner is? According to the information about Pecos on this site, it's losing population fast.

My favorite small town other than the trio in Far West Texas is Post, on Highway 380 about 40 miles SE of Lubbock. It just seems to have a soulful feel to it, and it's at the base of the Caprock, so the terrain is interesting. Not to mention George's Cafe, which was great last time I was there! I hope it is still in business.

I like Pecos, too.....but I found Post utterly depressing. It's been so long since I've been there that I could not tell you why now.
