The rains in New Ulm (After I moves here I found that it is pronounced Ul-Um), we had 11 inches in two days, brought out rattlers. I killed one on the back porch this AM, its mate went under the deck.
How do you get rid of them?

Normally a good cat or dog will keep snakes away. I've heard Guineas are good about killing snakes too.

You can always shoot them when you see 'em. Anything using birdshot, ratshot, buckshot will work.

I was talking with my vet recently and he said this year will be bad for rattle snakes. He recently had to put a dog down because of a snake bite.

guineas, barn cats
sprinkle the perimeter of your house and yard with sulfur, lime powder, diatomaceous earth and moth balls weekly, esp after rains
keep your grass cut low
clear out any brush, rocks
buy a snake shooter
i have been snake free in swampy coastal Georgia, rural North Texas, and Central Texas thanks to using most of these strategies
