Relocation to Texas, Please help!!!
Hello,
I am a recent college graduate and I have received an offer from the VA in temple, texas. I am wondering what area would you recommend moving to? I enjoy going to bars, working out, and hanging out with people my age, will I find all these in Temple or should I consider another city? Maybe Round rock or any other suggestions and please say why you recommend the specific city. Thanks in advance.

There are some outstanding neighborhoods in Temple, to the west and south, just outside the 363 Loop. Winding streets, thick trees, hidden creeks. Also, Lake Belton to the west. There's lots of homes in the inner city, mostly needing some tender loving care to restore.
There's a few bars/clubs in Temple and some good restaurants but I don't take it to be a party town. Round Rock would be about an hour away but would put you close to Austin.

You could also live in Georgetown, about halfway in between Austin and Temple, and commute to Temple for work and Austin for night life (though there's some nightlife closer to Georgetown than Austin, as well.

Temple VA is wonderful-congratulations! What will you be doing there?
I am not a big fan of Temple, because I am a country girl and like living in rural areas. (Though Temple has plenty of rural areas)....I go to Temple for shopping (much better than Killeen).
I like Lonestar Bar & Grill for nightlife, it's in Temple on FM 93 heading toward Heidenheimer.
I would live in Gatesville, Heidenheimer, Holland, Moody, Nolanville, Morgans Point Resort, or Belton...but that's just me.
There is plenty of night life in Harker Heights nearby-alot of country western clubs. Living in Temple, you will be in close proximity to there, and also to night life in Waco and Austin.
Lots of good restaurants in Temple. Great sports bar/restaurant called BJ's Microbrewery-you gotta try it! And lots of good bbq in Temple, though my favorite is down the road at Schoepfs in Belton. But I heard that Cyclone BBQ in a town about 10 miles east of Temple in the small town of Cyclone is very good too.
You will love the area.
Temple is very hard to navigate for me, and could not ever figure out how to get ANYWHERE without my GPS, but then again, I am used to farm roads.
You will be near two large lakes-Lake Belton and Stillhouse Hollow. Awesome. Make sure you go to Dead Fish Grill on Lake Belton-our only waterfront restaurant, right near the dam. Big screen TV's at the bar for sports. a VERY popular watering hole for yuppies and soldiers.
Best of luck!

I am also potentially moving to the area because of a job at the VA (for my boyfriend) SlickRav where are you at now? We are in Milwaukee- and i am a bit nervous about moving down there as I am a bit of a treehugger- we both like to work out, support local businesses, eat healthy, be outside etc.. and not sure that we will find many people our age to hang out with (23-30)
Were thinking about Georgetown but he would like to be closer to work. any advice is appreciated!

There's plenty of trees in Temple. A good place to start while you getting settled down would be the Brooke Apts. Lots of young singles there. Some going to the local junior college, some nursing school in Belton, some military.
The Brooke is full of elm and oak trees and a couple of creeks with red birds and blue jays kept fat and sassy by the local menu of spiders. Tell 'em the guy that used to live in 205A sent you.

Temple itself is not a bad place to live. It's almost mid way between Dallas and Austin and everything those two cities offer. It's also quite close to Waco, which being a college town, has a nightlife of its own (though on a much smaller scale). The same applies to Killeen, due to the large military presence. The entire Heart of Texas region is a pleasant place to stay and live, so I'm certain you will find a place to your liking.
Good luck, and welcome to Texas

Amen! you are so on target when you say the entire heart of Texas is a pleasant place to stay and live. it is really central to everywhere, and so much to explore. quality of life is great here!
i can choose to fly out of DFW, Killeen, Austin, or San Antonio!

ahhh...treehugger....stay close to Austin, that is the best advice to ggive ya! Georgetown would be good. Salado might be an option too. But Georgetown is too far of a drive to Temple VA. Salado is reasonable commute.
