Brownsville/South Padre Island Area?
So I am going to be moving to the Brownsville/South Padre Island Area. I want to be with in 30 minutes of Brownsville but live near the beach in a decent community (i.e. one that does not flood or have major crime). I love to run and would love to be with in 5 minutes of a decent beach so I could do my daily runs there. Also, I would like to get a house in the $120s to 130s with at least 2 to 3 bedrooms and a one to two car garage. I am not from the area and any info would help, even if it is only about where not to go. Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem. Areas to consider: Port Isabel or Laguna Vista. Not a bad place to live. Cheap livin', but suggest you leave the area during Spring Break.

Can't live on the island because of Spring Break. I have to live there year around so no getting away. I really need a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car garage house. That said Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, and Brownsville are the cities I am looking at. Can anyone tell me what Neighborhoods or areas of Brownsville are nice to live for a family. Looking for all the help I can get. Thanks

I'm from Brownsville. I would say anything in the northern part of Brownsville will be good as the poverty level is mostly in the south region of town (towards the border and downtown area, but there are exceptions). If I were you and wanted a small town feel, I'd look at Los Fresnos. Another town to consider would be SAN BENITO, which is a smaller town south of Harlingen. It's about 10-15miles from Brownsville, but you get the added benefit of an awesome airport, great hospitals and more diversity.

There's really only two weeks of bad Spring Break. I'm looking at moving to the Harlingen area myself. It would be a bit far from the island but warm in the winters!!!!!
