Not a fan of Whataburger at all. To get my favorite burger I have to go to New Mexico and pull into a Blakes Lotaburger.
Give me Blakes Lotaburger any day.

I disagree with the people that have stated Whataburger ketchup is a plus. I have contemplated bringing my own Heinz ketchup there before. The ketchup is acceptable, but it's not Heinz.

I agree; I have to use Heinz ketchup on W.B fries, pretty much any french fry.
Its Heinz 57 classic no comparison. W.B ketchup is a second place finish

Jucy's is still in Tyler and good, but, Jucy's Highway 80 at Spur 63 in Longview is very good.

I ate at In-N-Out Burgers when I lived in California. I never understood what inspired the fanaticism among others for their burgers. It was a fine burger for a fast food, drive through place. Nothing too remarkable.

Whataburger is better. I find Wendy's better than Whataburger though.

Athens, Texas is the birthplace of the hamburger. Ironically, there are few really good places to get a good one. Except for Whataburger. Perhaps the most popular restaurant in town, and definitely the most popular fast food place. The owner just shut down the old one a couple of years ago (it was about the size of most other typical Whataburger restaurants), and built a new huge one about a half mile away.

Default I can't wait to visit Texas again...

As an ex-Houstonian who's lived in 7 non-Whataburger cities over the last 25 years, I still contend that Whataburger is the best fast food version (I've never tried In-n-Out, admittedly). As to the consistency issue mentioned above, I agree as I've had maybe two or three burgers out of hundreds that weren't the best...however even those two were still better than any place in Boston except UBurger (very good and new with only 2 locations so far). The best I've ever had is from a single, non-chain location - an ex-brothel in fact - is Memphis's Ernestine's and Hazels. At 3am and with a Sam Adams it's an incredible burger!

Exclamation ETex2 Response

I'd never heard of the Athens claim. One place I lived was New Haven which still houses Louis Lunch - founded in 1900 out of a cart I guess and with strong claims to be the first. At the very least it's still around and apparently run by the same family. I had it four times within 2 years and, despite the same people operating it, found it to be one of the most inconsistent burger joints. Two were decent-to-good, two mediocre at best. The good paled in comparison with Whataburger, but when in New Haven....and it is an interesting place/experience. Don't request ketchup!
