Why does native texans hate other states so much? (middle school, college)

Have you ever lived in Houston? It's AWESOME! There's so much to do, and to see! We have the best and biggest medical center in the WORLD, some of the greatest shopping in the country, and it is truly a multicultural mecca. Houston has more restaurants than almost any other city in the United States, and they rank as some of the best. As for the land, you get the piney woods to the east, hills and lakes to the north, prairies to the west, and the sea to the south. Can't beat that! We have our bad points, like any other huge city, but overall, I think we're pretty fabulous. The history of Houston and the people who made it what it is today--the fourth largest city in the US--is filled with amazing stories of courage and honor, much like the history of San Antonio.

To truly love Texas, you must love ALL of Texas--the good, the bad, the ugly. Houston has all three and I am proud of it!

Supposedly Holliday was named after a Capt. Holliday. From the history I know, Capt. Holliday camped near there and and the town was named after him. You can find information about him on the Archer County Genealogy site under the early history.

You are probably right. When I was growing up, my dream was to live in the city (Houston). LIttle did i Know that I was NOT a city guy. Sadly, most of my memories of Houston were visiting the medical center for surgery (acid reflux out of control). However, i'm a big Astros fan...so loved visiting the DOME when it was open. I still have not been to Minute Maid Park...and I call myself a fan?! sigh.

I like Houston, just don't like the traffic and the city life.

If you are a Mt. person (like ILNC), then Houston would probably be the worst place for you . And if you like dry air, like in the mountains, then, again, Houston is not the best choice in Texas. Of course, if you like the ocean and don't mind humidity, it is wonderful .

Minute Maid Park is really nifty! Give it a try, I think you'll like it. We're big Astros fans too (though we're none too pleased that Pitt came in and swept us! YIKES!).

Do you ever go see the Missions play? One of the things I like about smaller cities and towns are the farm teams! Those are great games.

I drove around Brenham the other day and fantasized about acreage in Washington County....so I totally understand!!

It's where the Little Creamery is (aka Blue Bell) Washington County is called "The Birthplace of Texas". A nice little history is here: Washington on the Brazos


It is very picturesque, known for its rural, rolling pasture. Just beautiful.

One of the neat things about Washington County is a little town called Independence, where the original Baylor University once stood, and the original columns still stand.

I've lived as far west as Pecos to Amarillo to the Piney Woods. Now I am in NE texas and fixing to move a little further North in Texas. I love Texas, but have to agree with ILNC. Hate the bad weather and the droughts. I guess I am just a BIG chicken. I just say the 23rd Psalms and ready a place for my kids to get incase of a Tornado.

In West Texas, ya could see the tornados coming. Here with all the trees...it gets a little scary when they start to twist and bend. LOL!! Not to mention one falling on your house from the wind.

Now for the heat...Thank Godness for the A/C!!!! Whoever invented that I could just kiss. LOL!!!

LOL!!! My only complaint about other states is that the midset on how, when and why to use a turn signal!! I'm native Texan and swear to the ends of the earth that Okies do not know how to use blinkers, merge into traffic and slow the heck down when it rains or snows. Oklahoma borders Texas but you can sure tell the difference between a Texan and an Okie. Rant over.

There is also a difference between a "real" Texan and a "native" Texan as well. There are even differences between Californians, Easterners, Northeners, Floridians, Oklahoma people, etc. Many people born in a state are very different from others born in the same state. I believe I should say, "Thank goodness for that."
