I agree that East Waco needs help Bad, but I think you have to look at it in an economical standpoint. With violent crime, robbery, rapes, etc. running rampant in East Waco, why would a private investor want to take the chance on it, when they can just as easily locate in West Waco with much less stress to deal with.
jluke, do you ever read Carol Dugat's blogs about East Waco on the Trib website? Interesting reading if you have the time.

Yeah, Energy is pretty bad. Last time I went, some idiots started throwing up gang signs and a fight broke out. Supposedly, Club Legacy is closed down now. Did you hear about the dude who got stabbed??

Well IMO that's the club owners fault for allowing gang members into their establishment. Ever heard the phrase, "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"? These club owners need to enforce it. Maybe I am showing my age, but back when I used to go to clubs, people went out to have fun, not kill each other.

Killeen does not look like a suburb of Waco. It basically doesn't look like a suburb of any town. But if I say it's a suburb of any town, it's Austin. As already said, Killeen and Temple are VERY different. Temple is the older city and was established well before Killeen. Killeen didn't grow until after World War 2. But they look and ESPECIALLY feel nothing alike outside of a couple areas.
Just because a town has history does not mean it is not suburban. Frederick, Maryland is older than Washington DC yet is the suburb of DC. Not to mention that Killeen is actually more dense than Waco.

Well Killeen is smaller than Waco, so that's expected.

What made the incident worse was the police were being pushed back by the people surrounding the fight. They could not get to the dude being stabbed.

Killeen/Temple area....somewhat insulated from economic depression due to the presence of our largest military installation being here. no shortage of jobs here.
