Cities with the most potential
Outside of the top major cities (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth), what cities do you think have the most potential to be the next big thing.
El Paso: West of I35 (Excluding San Antonio and Austin) is where Texas suffers the most imo when it comes to the cites on the east. El Paso could easily become a great city attracting more people to the west because of the fact it dosen't have much competition in the west. It's already a major city, but now it needs to start creating an identity, I think it should look at LA or ABQ for inspiration.
Waco: This city was poised as becoming one of Texas greatest cities but has been cheated so many times over the years. (Fued with Dallas, Losing Paul Quinn (Really hurt East Waco when that happened), Closing down lots of clubs, etc) I feel this city has lost lots of it's identity and trying to hard to be something it's not. 5-10 years ago, Waco had crazy night life and more for familes to do. Now the city is becoming too strict and becoming too tame.

Corpus Christi has so much more potential than both of those area. It has a great opportunity to become Texas's coastal playground but is forced to remain a secret and keep its small town feel by the few corrupt people who once sat on the city council. But now that there is a new council, maybe things may change.

I think Midland is planning 2 new high-rise buildings downtown and trying to lure a 5-star hotel (we don't even have that in SA!). They are also working hard to create a vibrant downtown by adding residential units in vacant buildings. Work has also begun on a second loop (yeah... more sprawl).

Still has a long way to go but for being in a largely undesirable area Midland has potential.

I like to have someone else that is not from Waco to confirm this.
When I went there last time, a lot of buildings there are rundown and even several of my friends said that also. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong part of the city or is that what happen after losing Paul Quinn?

I'd say Lubbock, Killeen and Waco.

The cities with the most potential are:
1) Lubbock - due to being the home of a large and very good university, Lubbock has the potential to attract businesses that wish to take advantage of an educated populace. The disadvantage is the relative unattractiveness of the setting.
2) Corpus Christi - location, location, location. This city's beautiful location on the Corpus Christi Bay, with a national seashore and Port Aransas adjacent to the city, has the potential to turn itself into a major convention and tourist destination, which, in turn, should lead to quick growth as businesses look to relocate. The disadvantages are high windstorm insurance rates, a relatively uneducated populace, and a lack of city leadership.
3) Tyler - the location halfway between Dallas and Shreveport in the Piney Woods makes this area an attractive place to live. Low costs should make it an attractive place for businesses to locate.

Any place along 35, 45 or 10 in the golden triangle will benefit from the expansion of the three biggies. When (and if) Interstate 69 is built, any moderate city along its path will definitely benefit from the NAFTA traffic.

Amarillo. Someday, people will realize that nuclear disarmament is a naive exercise, and is in fact, a dangerous folly. When that occurs, look for a major build up. Amarillo will benefit.

IMO Corpus Christi has the greatest potential. Others that have some potential are probably Waco and Lubbock.
