Dallas and Houston are the major cities. Not only are they major cities, they are considered Global Cities, along with only a handful of others in the United States.

Corpus Christi should be in the top tier of major cities in Texas due to the size of its port: by tonnage, it is the 5th largest port in the United States.

No, Corpus Christi isn't in the top tier. It's in the same tier as Beaumont, Lubbock, and Midland-Odessa.

LUBBOCK
AMARILLO
MIDLAND
WACO
BEAUMONT
TYLER
LAREDO
BROWNSVILLE

I didn't list cities like Arlington, Plano, Frisco, Pasadena, Round Rock etc. because the are suburbs!
Why is Midland making the list and not Odessa? I don't have an ax to grind I have never been to either city but their population sizes are very similar just asking.

Midland has its Odessa.

Tyler has its Longview.

Dallas has its Fort Worth.

I would agree, except that due to the size of its port, Corpus Christi has a much larger influence than those other three cities.

I cannot believe some of the cities listed in this thread.

Tyler?

Bryan-College Station is larger and more economically important than many of the cities listed. Inside the Texas Triangle (SA, Dallas, Houston).

But the only MAJOR cities in Texas are Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio (barely). Austin, Fort Worth and El Paso are in the next group.

Then it is everyone else.

Agreed. Dallas, Houston, and SA are kind of Group 1. Then Austin and Fort Worth are Group 1A, with El Paso at Group 1B. Everything else is Group 2 and so on...

Lets do the same with the Waco/Temple/Killeen Metro. Your looking at over 600k. Waco is also closer to Temple than Tyler is to Longview.
