You should definitely check it out -- a visit to Wurstfest in New Braunfels is, IMO, far superior to Fredericksburg for a German culture/food experience. It's absolutely huge, and it blows away Fredericksburg's Octoberfest.. too bad it's only 1 week a year. The biergarten and dance hall seem like they should be used year-round!

I've stopped in Fredericksburg on a couple of West-Coast or Big Bend trips (usually on the way back home), and it's a nice place to stop for dinner and maybe some music. As far as a destination trip to that area, the wineries on 290 or Enchanted Rock are more interesting to me.

fwiw atxcio....wurstfest (in NB) runs for two weeks (3 weekends). But you're right, it would be great if they'd have small version of it one weekend a month.

Sometimes it's good to eat some sausage & pastries & listen to oompah music....& more than once a year.

So go to Walburg to the Walburg Restaurant and hear the Walburg Boys. Open year round (though sometimes the Walburg Boys are not there as they're on tour in Germany).

Have you been out there? I am wondering if they still have his amphibious car. He use to get a big kick out of driving guests around his ranch, then 'accidently' driving off into the water and seeing the looks on their faces.

After Lady Bird died, they opened the white house to the public. It's worth it! Park Rangers give interpretations. So pretty out there.

Absolutely! Dunno how many times per year I can handle the Chicken Dance, though.

I was just down there briefly in February and hope to make it back soon. I need to get back to that German place I had dinner at a few years back. The name escapes me and I should have written it down as I passed by it a few months back, but I'll remember the location. (It's probably the Biergarten, but don't hold me to that.)
