Default looking for the best little town in texas

it's always been a dream of mine to move to texas. i was born in florida, grew up and california and have experienced arizona.

only problem i just want to go! we've been lookin for jobs but it's impossible living in california for anyone to take us seriously...so we're thinking of just moving and then getting jobs. we have two small kids and need a small town.

preferable somewhere that gets green, doesn't snow (too much), not super windy, not flat, trees, less than 25,000 people, good schools, low crime and room to breath - we want at least 2+ acres for the kids...any ideas? my husband is a laborer/mechanic and can do almost anything with his hands. i'm pretty universal myself but would like to work part time so i can be with the kids.

all your ideas are much appreciated.

How small are you looking for? It sounds like you're describing the Hill Country, west of Austin and San Antonio. Try looking into towns like Fredericksburg, Llano and Burnet (those are "LAN-oh" and "BURN-it," by the way). GORGEOUS green hills all over the place, and close enough to Austin to go into the city for special occasions or needs you can't get in your town.

Great...those are the area's we've been lookin at. Sounds like we're in the right direction. Small enough to know everyone in town or at least at the grocery store, that isn't growing too fast. Our current town was small when we were kids but is just growing too fast and not for the better.

Oh and we're not scared of the heat.

Maybe Junction. It's pretty much the gateway between West Texas and the Hill Country. You'd want to look east of there if you want green.

Palestine is a great option as well. Green, tons of hills and affordable.

Someone said the Lllano/ Fredricksburg has GREEN hills??????? I'm LMAO. The HIll Country is pretty in a scrub brush kind of way, green and lush it's not.

um well what it comes down to is lots of hills surrounding...i'm just not looking to live in the desert or the high mountains, where it's cold, windy and/or ugly. like i said i don't mind the heat and or if the hills dry out after the rains

I live just a bit North East of Austin but I was also going to mention you may want to look at some of the small towns around Palestine as well. Palestine, Hearne, Jacksonville, etc...There may be some small towns around the Hill Country you'd like, but it's booming in population right now out here so lots of those little towns won't be that way for long. That's why I mention looking the other direction.

That area of the Hill Country is almost desert.
