Question? Classic Country stations
Got a question for my fellow Texans...
My main musical interest is AM Gold, Classic Rock, and Classic Country. That is, roughly, 50's thru 70's era. I KNOW some the stations that play the first two, but have extreme difficulty finding a station that plays the true old country music.
Can anybody recommend one? There used to be one here in Wichita Falls, but the format changed to that "modern day" country (which, sorry, I don't really consider it true country! LOL) When we make the summer trips to Caddo Lake, there is one that can be picked up around Tyler called KMOO (I have to wonder if that is a joke! LOL), but otherwise, I really don't know of any.
Anyway, please give me an assist here. I might not be able to pick it up in the car, but could probably tune it in on the 'net! LOL
Thanks in advance, y'all!

Good luck on that one, Reb.....
They had a true Classic Country station in Midland for a few years (played very late 50s-80s), but when we lost it, I went to XM Satellite. Best thing I ever did, even if it costs! So-called current modern country is 1970s soft rock, as far as I'm concerned.
Did you see the tribute to George Strait on CBS the other night? The best part was the finale, with the man himself doing Oceanfront Property!
Even during the tribute to Marty Robbins as the entertainer of the decade for his time wasn't what it could have been. First time in my life I ever heard El Paso done by anybody but Marty. Spare me, please!! It should have been illegal, LOL!

I'd agree with Cathy on the XM switch. Was a time in Houston I'd get up Sundays at 6 a.m. to listen to the blues on KPFT but have since moved away. Some time later I got XM and now can listen to the blues any time of day or nite.
Bluesville XM74
There's a coupla country stations on XM so you might find what you're looking for there. If you have an opportunity to give it a try, take it. Here's a channel lineup.

I listen to 92.1 KXEZ out of Dallas. They play some really great classics. I agree that today, country music isn't like it used to be.

They still play the classics on Saturday morning on KVET in Austin. I also enjoy the Sunday morning gospel music on the same radio station.
I still miss my childhood experiences of staying at my grandparents on Lake Texoma and listening to 1170 AM KVOO from Tulsa Oklahoma at night. Between this station and Bill Mack on WWL in New Orleans, I learned to love older country music songs while listening to trucker music.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Arlington on business and on Tuesday afternoon, I think I found the Dallas NPR station and they were playing nothing but Texas country music. I'm going to try to stream that in on Monday afternoon - they played Red Sovine, Marty Robbins, Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys and some of Cornell Hurd's new music. It was some great tunes.

Love the old country from 70 to early 80s. I started listening to Lyle Lovett the other day, I had never really got into his style until recently.

Thanks for all the good leads, y'all!
TexasNick? Wasn't it Lyle Lovett who sang that old almost forgotten hit from the early 70's titled "West Texas Highways"....?

Yes.
What boggles my mind is how big classic country is in Europe.
