After reading this, I realized I sounded like a jerk, but seriously, what kind of a question is that? People have accents, plain and simple. I have the General American accent, which I'm sure sounds strange to someone somewhere. I'm sorry if I came across harsh.

Some tourist-friendly restaurant in Santa Fe, can't recall the name -- but it's where we had the waiter with no thumbs and the Tourette's guy was muttering about Texas (see previous post). Anyway, the green enchiladas registered on the Richter scale, for sure. As did the green chile chili at a place in Los Alamos. And the green chile eggs at a breakfast joint. Maybe it was a particularly potent crop of green chile!! We LOVED the food, but it lit us up!!

Vinegaroon I am suprised that you think we Texans talk funny . You must not have been in New Mexico long enough to get used to our twang because at least half of New Mexicans come from Texas .

You didn't come across sounding harsh, or like a jerk at all, Westerner. A thread with a title such as this doesn't deserve a polite response in any case. If someone really wanted to know why Texans (like all other Americans) have accents that might be difficult for some in some other states/regions to understand -- and what the origins are -- then it certainly would have been titled in a less insulting/condecending way. It would be a perfectly legitimate question if not for what I find hard to believe was not deliberately provocative in its initial presentation.

But then again, maybe I am applying standards of Texas/Southern manners that are not the norm elsewhere...? I mean, sure, to me, people from certain parts of the northeast sound "funny" But I (or any "Texas Regular" poster from here, I know) would never dream of going onto their forums and starting a thread labeled something like: Hey Yankees? Why do y'all talk so funny? LOL

Anyway, it speaks highly of your status as a Texan gentleman that you did so, but again, IMHO, I don't think you owed an apology at all.
