I used to think New England accents were real annoying sounding. When I first started meeting people from CT and Boston I really hated their accents too. I went all over New England last October. I hit all 6 New England states including Boston. Their accents don't bother me anymore. I guess I got used to them hearing them over the years. These days I don't feel like people in Boston, MA, CT have big accents. The people in Maine have pretty big accents though. ME is just a bunch of small town and country people so they probably have big accents because they're country people. Country people usually have much bigger accents than the city people. The people in Maine are nice though.

Yeah I think her accent is kind of humorous. Now she really has a big accent. I think her accent is bigger than any American accent I've ever heard. The only people that have an accent bigger than hers are foreigners. Now most foreigners have big accents.

Hi,
Coming from out of state moving from oregon to texas, being raised in by a born-breed okie, how long do you think it will take me to acquire the accent. I love the southern accent. I have been saying ya'll, since I was a kid. I just hope I can come visit my family in Oregon and sound funny to them!
BTW I think the jersey accent is funny sounding.

You'll gradually acquire the accent. I can't say how long it will take.

Possibly never. I don't have a southern accent after 30 years although to hear my friends in CA tell it, I do. I really don't though.

Since Texas is bigger, and majority rules, that makes New Mexico the state that talks funny.

That's because the "real" California accent is a mixture of a classical "Western" accent (ala Wyoming) and a "frontier Southern" accent. So you don't hear yourself "going southern" the way a true Yankee from East of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio / Mason Dixon would as they morph.

And what's the deal with a runny fried egg on top of the enchiladas in New Mexico? As we would say back home in Big D...it don't make no good sense!
