Why do Texans talk so funny?
Why do you all (no, not y'all) talk so funny? Just wondering, because so many of you seem to enjoy coming over here to vacation in New Mexico, and it would help if I could understand you all.

You're kidding right? It's called an accent. Everybody, including yourself, has one. I think you're just trolling around.

I am not kidding. I am looking for an answer. If the answer is that you have an accent, where did that accent come from? What is its origin?

As Brother Dave Gardner would say, " You generalizing!!"
But just for glee -- here's a story of this tourist from Texas. Went to at a restaurant in Santa Fe, the hostess was a "little person," the waiter had no thumb, and while we waited for our table, a huge gentleman bedecked in prerequisite bolo tie, a black hat and a genuine case of Tourette's walked through with several outbursts of "F*** Texas!!"
I am not making this up.

I love New Mexico, it is so pretty. Seen some horny toads last time I was there too. As for the way us Texans talk, it's called a southern twang. Now if you want to hear an accent, talk to a Bostonian...

Well, one has to remember that you are from the Midwest, and are no New Mexican! So, to Midwesterners (especially those like you that are from the more northern part), Texans probably do sound funny.
I've been in NM for almost two years, and I have yet to have anybody comment on my accent except for one stupid damn Yankee from CT.

The fact that you said "you all" betrays the fact that you, too, have an accent. Gramatically correct English requires only that you say "you" for the second-person plural, and any additional words are proof of coloquialisms and regional variation.
However, I have two questions for you. One, why do New Mexicans who don't speak Spanish speak with a Spanish accent? And two, why do Midwesterners sound so boring when they speak? I've never heard anything so bland and without character as a Kansas or Iowa accent.
