Northernlite is on a distinguished road
Default Canadian looking for Texas Healthcare jobs.

I have been enjoying reading these forums for quite a while now and finally decided to post my own question. I am an MRI Technologist in Canada and I've always wanted to work and live in Texas. I have a high school friend who works as a nurse in Houston and she absolutely loves it. I have no real preference for any particular city to live in and would be just as content in a small center as a large one. Does any one have any idea of what job propects would be for a Canadian MRI Tech wishing to work in Texas? Has the recession put a squeeze on healthcare jobs as well? I read somewhere that the market was a little flooded with MRI Techs. Any truth to that? Any responses and opinions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, it snowed here on Saturday (June 6)!!!!!!!!. This is one reason why I'd like to move to a warmer climate for a while!

you would have to find an employer who would sponsor your visa--that means a fee to the employer--if there are enough MRI techs to be found locally, think it would be difficult in this job market to justify hiring someone that will cost the company money

have you done job search for your field on Monster, Career builder, TX workforce commission (state job board)?
San Antonio, Dallas, Houston all have major health care networks
FTW does as well
Tyler for a smaller town has good medical facilities

so there is plenty to pick from

If you can get a work permit or enter the US legally, I'm sure you can find a job almost anywhere in Texas. The key is to not need a sponsor. There is a such a shortage of nurses, hospitals pay any price to get hem. your in a bit different catagory. but the jobs are there.

You might look at betterjobstexoma.com. The Sherman/Dension area (north of Dallas about an hour) is building a new hospital campus (replacing an existing one) and is advertising for staff on that website. That area is a medical center that serves not only those two small cities but also a large surrounding area that includes a large part of southern Okalahoma and the the Texas rural area (which is heavily populated) from Paris TX to Wichita Falls TX.
