According to this Houston Chronicle article the Cypress-Fairbanks school district is considering cancelling the 20% homestead exemption on property taxes for homeowners within its district. The cap for senior citizens would remain in place. Apparently, this move would generate an extra $35 million in revenue for a district facing a nearly $30 million deficit.

Seems like a move that makes sense for that district, although it is likely to be highly unpopular with local taxpayers. Anyone heard of other districts considering something similar?

Dumb move. The economy doesn't need them to KILL the real estate market completely. Desirable districts inside Houston start around 450k. Do something like this, it will kill values around the city, which in turn will kill revenue in the long term. Dummy Beauracrats never think these things out.
