you know I try to believe everything people here post, I do not like to think they are making things up, but in this case I believe either our friend? has a very vivid imagination or is exagerating everything that she feels is wrong with East Texas. She hates where she is living, wants to live someplace she feels will accept her without any questions, she wants to live somewhere that everyone sees things as she does and is making herself and probably her family miserable. KKK bake sales and throwing axes at Jews, what book did that come from?

I had to go back and reread a few posts in order to find the axe throwing incident. I don't believe that for a second. Thinking about a KKK bake sale...hmm...you know, I've heard of weirder things regarding stupid bigots on the news, so I guess it's a possibility. But I agree, most of it sounds exagerated. If ALL that were going on in one area in this day and age, the media would be having a field day.

Near as I can tell with a quick google, the only place "KKK bake sales" pops up is in a reference to 10 Reasons To Hate Joey Gladstone (who is a fictional character). Enough said?

I started to look up Joey Gladstone, then I remembered Full House. I hated that character, and I didn't need 10 reasons. He just annoyed the heck out of me!

Mauriceville KKK bake sales??? I call BS on this claim! I lived 12 miles south of there for six years until moving in April 09, and never saw any such crap! Never saw a klan outfit, unless you count the few from Arkansas that Vidor ran out of their city limits back in 2003!

Between the right wing media and the left wing, you can be sure this would be top news..
I think she has googled as many places as she can, did a lot of research and strung together a bunch of things that she beleives happened but if they did, and I doubt they did, they were incidences years apart from one another.

Vidor Texas! Again! - Stormfront
notice they call it clan country....I have no desire to be center of attention, I just don't appreciate being called a liar, I began just stating my opinion and because it differed you all attacked. Outdsiders arent welcome I understand. Point taken. Whether you believe me or not what I have experienced is real and horrifying and makes me completly miserable almost to the point of not leaving my home. Yes some of my husbands family (obviously not the bi-racial couple; my husband is the youngest of 8) has brought alot of this on me, his brothers are very much the stereotypical rednecks in questions (friends with a great many of the Klan members in Vidor). I will not have anything to do with my husbands family anymore because of the things I have witnessed and been forced to deal with.
And on this message board it is very easy to be confrontational and speak my mind, but in reality I don't. I have SEVERE anxiety (I can provide a doctors note, since apparently im a lying drama queen), and I can hardly stand to be around people let along start problems or come close to wanting to be center of attention. I dont even want the issue here, it makes me sick to my stomach, but I can't stand the same attitude, the its all me cause it's out of the question someone has a bad experience, and so I am a lier. I feel I am allowed to defend myself when I am being attacked repeatedly for doing something as simple as stating my opinon and what I have experienced, you havent lived my life you have no idea. I hate and loathe drama (hence the not leaving my house!).

There's good people everywhere and there's bad people everywhere. Just stay away from the bad people and hang out with the good people. Just do this and you should be fine. I'm sure you can go to the biggest redneck, backwards, screwed up place you can find and there will be plenty of good people there. It's like I told someone on another thread it's not where you live that matters it's who you hang out with that matters.

Ive been to the Longview/Tyler somewhere between 20 and 25 times and my father grew up in Longview until he moved to Carson, California when he was 15. My mother grew up in Waco and met my father at UCLA (at a club for Texans). Waco isnt in east Texas, so Ill leave it out for this conversation.
I have seen some things in the areas around Longview that may have seemed "racist". I have on a couple of occasions "white power" bumper stickers and T-shirts, there was one time when I was younger when they had a Klan rally. But guess what? I can direct you to cities within 30 miles of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Phoenix where I have seen similar things. My grandparents who live in Longview are (brace for it) Socialists and Athiests. They also have many friends who know about it.
So are they racist people in East Texas? Absolutely. Is it unique to East Texas or the South? Absolutely not.
