Default Working for A&M?

So, is it true you have to know someone to get a job with TAMU?

That's what I've been told, would like to hear opinions. Also, short of being an "Aggie" just how do you "get to know someone"?

I know of a couple of people who applied for various positions at TAMU and never even got a reply back, they don't have any "pull" with anyone, not even from Texas. Perhaps the recent shake up with the President has put a damper on hiring? Maybe waiting to see how the dust settles?

I suppose it depends on what kind of position you're looking for, but I worked for A&M from 98 to 01 and got hired without knowing anyone. I submitted my application through the proper channels, but I also took it upon myself to contact the hiring people directly. At the time, they had some kind of central office that took applications, and they would screen them based on keywords. The problem was that the screeners were essentially bureaucrats who had no personal understanding of what the job entailed and no real discretion. The group who hired me thought it was a stupid system and circumvented it as much as they could.
