I know Houston, you can't get away with that. I will give you that River Oaks is nicer than HP - but I don't like HP anway. That's where the pretentious people live, not in the city of Dallas.

No matter what you say, the hot Houston air stinks and people wear gold-nugget jewelry. Diamond Rolexes on men throwing inappropriately large tips? We laugh at that here!

Houston ranks 3rd in the country in amount of fine arts museum space, so not too shabby in the arts. Just one example.
Museums are just one aspect of the arts scene. Dallas is building a new $250 million dollar arts center and has tons of galleries, museums (including the famous Nasher sculptures), etc.

Houston does have some tourist industry -- Kemah, some downtown attractions, NASA...
Not much and it's not even comparable to Dallas' tourist industry. They have the School Book Depository, Southfork Ranch, West End, Deep Ellum, many conventions plus numerous other tourist attractions. The two aren't even close.

And the whole country laughs at the likes of Dallas residents that think they've got it "goin' on." You're pretty right about the Houston people. We also have L-Dog driving, purple-haired old women and a loud news anchor with blue sunglasses. So Houston has some pretty eccentric and outrageous residents. What big city doesn't?

The New York air is stale, just like Los Angeles' pollution, so it's not as if Houston's alone in that department. It's the smell of work. The smell of a fast-paced lifestyle. Let me stop, though, because I love Dallas. I really do, and I don't want anybody thinking I don't.

It doesn't really matter anyway because I don't know too many people who come to Houston for the tourist attractions. They come for the shopping and the partying. If you even talk to New Yorkers about Times Square and Lady Liberty, they'll tell you that it's so cheesy. So tourism isn't everything.

You're just salty because someone was talking about your city.
My city is Phoenix/ Scottsdale, not Dallas.

When comparing cities, you look at ALL the aspects (including tourism) not just certain ones that favor YOUR city. I'm trying to point out a fact about Dallas while you're trying to dismiss it as unimportant.

I'm not trying to start an arguement here but it just bugs me.

Well as adults, we all have things that bug us, but that doesn't make them wrong. We just have to learn to deal with others' opinions.

I know that you live in Scottsdale, AZ. I saw it in your header info. What I meant by "your city" is that you obviously favored Dallas over Houston. I learned that a whole month ago. But I wasn't trying to dismiss anybody's comment. Sorry if that's how you took it, but that's not how it was. I was saying that Houston is not a tourist city, and that several people are not interested in those attractions. New York is not a tourist city, Chicago is not a tourist city. Los Angeles is, and evidently Dallas is.

I'm a resident of Houston, so I make it a point to "prove" how my city is better than its unqualified competitor. Just as you did with Dallas, as you had nothing nice to say about Houston except that it's a "nice city."

Hahaha: not to humid… in Texas? Houston (next to the gulf!)?? Ohh, Lets look at the other things on your list…I would bet both have identical good and bad neighborhoods. Dallas Business Journal has a listing every year of the top companies in the metroplex. The City of Irving has 26 fortune 500 companies. Plano & Dallas has many. I think our homes are over priced depending on where you look, what side of town. Being near the light rails is a good thought in Dallas. I don’t know much about Houston other than how long it takes me to drive there from Dallas. Cheat! Call the Chambers of commerce for both cities… Irving and Dallas has relocation services within the Chamber of commerce, and seeing that I live in Irving, I’m partial to my city. We are located between Dallas and Fort Worth on the 214-972 (Dallas side). The lower the crime the higher the cost of living, cause you may be in a HOA community. I have a friend who’s a realtor that can check some things for you on the Dallas end first. And honestly, have a good friend from Houston to do the same thing.
Dallas - Fort Worth is better… for lots of reasons! But better for you family, you have to decide, I vote for Irving Texas

All from page 1 of this thread, evidently you didn't look very hard .

I've said many nice things about Houston so don't give me that. You really haven't said anything nice about Dallas that I've seen at least. And yes, I do favor Dallas over Houston because I've had much better experiences in Dallas than Houston. I've been to both cities numerous times and have listed pros/cons of each.

How can you possibly say that NYC and Chicago are not tourist cities? I mean NYC is the BIGGEST tourist city in the US. Chicago is also right up there. Dallas isn't a tourist city when compared to other US cities but my point was that it had more touristy options than Houston.

One, I never said there was anything wrong with you favoring Dallas.

Two, in that list you did NOT say one thing about Houston that would lead someone to believe that it was better. You said what it had and what it lacked. And don't say that I don't speak well of Dallas when I have numerous times spoken on the things that I envy about that city.

And three, there is tourism in New York, but it's not a "tourist city" in the sense that it has a stigma placed on it. Los Angeles has lame tourists scoping out the entire area. I personally have never heard of any major major tourism in Chicago. NY, CHI, and HOU are "shopping cities." They're too business oriented and far too residential; thus, only a small portion of these cities are for tourists.

NY and Chicago are "too residential?" I'd have to disagree with that. NYC is a HUGE tourist city.
