I for one, don't really care about the exact amounts of airport traffic, etc.
What I've really noticed in here, are the snide remarks from a few Dallas posters that Houston people "wear gold nugget jewelry", are "mean", the city air is "stinky", etc. All ridiculous and immature. And the news article making it sound like it's such an accomplishment that Dallas + Fort Worth metro has one more Fortune 500 company than the Houston metro (which consists of all the companies in Houston except the one in the Woodlands). Then people arguing about that, failing to recognize that Houston (the city) has the most after NYC. Houston also has the largest theatre district after NYC, the largest grouping of hospitals and medical research in the world, the nation's 2nd largest port, top-notch culture/arts and restaurants recognized in the country as just as good or better than those of Dallas, and so on. Yet so few Dallas folks will admit to that, instead they resort to playing around with numbers or making up stereotypes and wrongs about Houston. Too many generalize the industrial east side to the entire city. Many of us in Houston remember the Olympics thing, where Houston got picked and Dallas didn't, after the Dallas folks warned the committee about the "horrors" in Houston. You don't see the same kind of talk and attitude from Houston folks regarding Dallas. That kind of thing is what really bothers me... |

At the end of the day, how much does it really matter which city is ahead of who in which ranking? Some of us prefer Dallas, some Houston. I happen to like Dallas better, but I can always find things I like (and dislike) about every city. The whole idea of a "Dallas vs. Houston" thread to compare statistics is kind of ridiculous in the first place. Both cities are too big and diverse to categorize that way. But, you know, everyone likes to know who's you-know-what is bigger, I guess. ![]() The original posted asked for experiences with both cities to try and find the better place to live. It's possible they didn't want a competition, but some actual useful information to help make their decision. |

"You don't see the same kind of talk and attitude from Houston folks regarding Dallas"
OH, Please! I lived in Houston, don't forget. I remember my first day on the job I was called Yankee several times because I am from Dallas! And that was just the start. But some of us natives feel we must keep up the rivalry. How about a thread on Dallas vs. Fort Worthless? ![]() |

(Sigh)...It's been said that mpope409 likes to put a spin on things in order to make Houston look better (as if it needs any help), but let me say two things: I always have and always will love Dallas. I'm in the Barney's New York and Neiman's flagship every chance I get. So don't for one second think that because I made it my job to straighten out a few facts about Houston and Dallas, that I don't admire your city. Moderator cut: personal/off topic I accepted the fact that DFW has more air traffic, and I accepted that DFW has more shopping. |

I guess the only real thing to add is that it's obvious that Dallasites and Houstonians are very proud of their respective cities.

And that despite what people believe, a lot of Houstonians do like Dallas. Still, I think we know who took this one (for the second time since I've been a member on this site)...that said, Robzherenow, I thoroughly suggest Houston for your happiness and guaranteed good times! Premier theatre scene, the coolest club scene, international eats, surplus of multiculture, great tapas bars, gorgeous backdrop of gigantic oaks and loblolly pines of the eastern U.S., big-beautiful-classic homes, but most of all, I promise you that your kids will lead a full, exclusive, and great life in the grand city of HOUSTON!

...they just don't tell Dallasites that.
That's how rivalries work! |

Well I can't speak for other Houstonians, but I have no reservations in professing my admiration for the City of Dallas. It's just too different from Houston, and I'm a Houston person, so of course I'm going to like it more.

All I care about with the airports, is that now I can actually get direct, international flights to places we've gone like London, Cabo, and so many others. When I lived in Austin that was a big drawback, not being able to get those direct flights out of the city. So any traffic differences between DFW and Houston, I could really care less about.
