This March I drove through a terrible dust storm that started in Las Cruces New Mexico, through El Paso Texas all the way to Ft Stockton Texas. This area might have low humidity and no tornadoes, but those dust storms really suck.

That's about the only knock against the wear in El Paso/Southern New Mexico. Nasty dust storms for maybe 7 days out of the year, but then beautiful sunshine the rest of the year. El Paso's weather is much nicer than the rest of the state, i.e. North Texas/South Texas.

Not just Texas but even most of California aside from San Francisco and the immediate coastal areas.

The poster must've just stayed home and griped about having to move away from their home state. LOL
Loving Virginia big time but when I am flying back to Texas I am thinking about da food! Especially the Holy Trinity of brisket, Tex-Mex and Cajun seafood.

That holy trinity can even be found in the small towns. Go to the cities and you can find the best Vietnamese food, Nigerian, Indian, and Arabic Mediterranean. Houston is where I've had the best Turkish and Arabic Mediterranean food I've ever tasted. I would say it also has some really underrated Greek scene but I suspect it might be third in line to NYC and Chicago.

Um, yeah people do retire here, because it's cheaper than many other places.

It's shifted in the last few years. June is more mild and the roasting continues through September. This year the t-storms aren't even done yet.

Danish54, you should be looking at the Panhandle. Amarillo is in the center. Winter temps rarely freeze for any length of time. Summer can be 90s/100, but humidity is in the 20% and lower range. Spring and autumn are gorgeous, temperature wise.

Suggest you visit the area, not confining yourself to only large towns, to get a better feel for whether or not it will fit. Only you can decide what will work.
