Did you take any photos of Marfa? If so, I would love to see them. I hear the area has changed a lot in the past few years.
Thanks for sharing!
Steph
No I don't have any pictures of Marfa in town. We drove through but didn't stop... The Rain Picture above is just outside Marfa though. Sorry

Well, you're not that far from the whole area, so y'all can go visit when you have time.

Sis actually ran into an employee on her Hawaiian trip last week who was a native of Midland! He had lived there his entire life, but had never gone to Ft Davis/Alpine/Marfa...or Big Bend.

He's now planning a trip down there the next time he comes home after talking to her, LOL!!

I will confess that I didn't get down there nearly as much as I should have when I lived in Midland. I had a great time down there in April! It's too hot at Big Bend now, but not A/M/FD....it's cooler than Midland---but then, so are most other places--except for Austin.

We haven't reached 100 yet here.

Hi Cathy! We are kicking ourselves for not finding Fort Davis until now (and we've only been here 2 years!) What a treasure and so close! It's amazing the dramatic change in scenery as you leave Pecos and approach the mountains, truly stunning!! We are definately going back in Fall when hopefully it won't be as crowded. Dh and dd especially loved the McDonald Observatory and star party! Girl Scout Camp was a hit too!! Next year maybe 2 weeks!!

Pam

Hey, Pam,

Do plan a very late fall trip to Big Bend if you have time! It starts cooling off down there in October. We stayed at Indian Lodge at Fort Davis, and did a day trip to Big Bend! It's just as stunning as always. I hadn't been down there since the late 1970s, and I could also kick myself for not having gone more often! BB starts getting hot in late April, though, and is pretty much unbearable from May-September.

I'm just glad I'm still close enough to make periodic trips to A/M/FD/BB. It's the one area that may call me home one of these years, especially if my skiing days are over.

I have quite a few more and will be posting them one or two at at time going forward for those that are interested.

Thanks

A simply great slice of Americana. Fabulous pictures of the West Texas countrysides. I've been to Fort Davis and I can't wait until I get to go again.

I love that area. I've been to the Texas Star Party twice, which is held on the Prude Ranch just north of Fort Davis. If you've never been and have any interest in astronomy, by all means go! The sky is gorgeous, and there are several hundred telescopes there to look at it with. You haven't lived until you've seen a galaxy through a big telescope!
