Is it true there is a eating joint in Texas where the steak is as big or bigger than the size of a human head. If u eat it in a sitting u get some sort of prize? If so where and what is the name? Is it popular? and any info about it welcome.

I don't know about steak size of human head-but there are several steak places that advertise eating their biggest steak and getting it for free

think there is one outside Denton and one in Abilene and one on I-35 on way to Austin

Want to do it with one with an honour board, like the first one mentioned.
Like the Idea of having my name on the board.

The Big Texan is the one everybody knows about......when you say "Amarillo", everybody says oh, yeah - the Big Texan! The food is pretty good, fun decor and atmosphere....they have country music some nights and cowboy poets one Saturday morning a month. It has a fun little motel right next door, too.....rooms are fixed up like ranch houses, very western, very authentic.....somewhat 'touristy' but if you're coming from New Zealand, well, heck, you're a touritst and you'd probably love it. Two of my cousins tried the steak one night.....one made it, the other started throwing up just about 2 bites away from finishing. I watched a petite woman truck driver try it one night.....she nearly made it!

I've been to Amarillo several times but I've never tried that monster steak over at the Big Texan so if I go back sometime I'll have to give it a try!

It's 4½ pounds (72 ounces)! I don't think I could do it, and it wouldn't be worth the digestive problems to find out. A pound is more than enough for me.

I def. have it on my to do list. We don't have anything like this downunder, so its abit of a novelty to me.
Without wanting to sound arrogant, I reackon my chances would be pretty good with the right preparation. Even if as some of you rightly say, you would feel like crap for sometime afterwards. Don't want to leave it too long I'm sure my chances much better at my current age of 30, than say 40-50.

I've been to the Big Texan several times with family members and even their regular steaks are some of the best I have tasted. The best time I was there was with my wife and the floor musicians played Bob Wills' Faded Love (http://www.pcdon.com/-fadedlove.wav - broken link)
at our table at our request.
