Red face Athens, Texas - Just for Retirees?

Are the residents of Athens, Texas mostly retirees? Online searches are telling me its a great place to retire, but at 34, I'm thinking I'd like to be around the younger crowd still! I found a nice property there, but am wondering if I'll be bringing the average age down quite a bit!!!

I used to love Athens. Much of my family is from that area; my mother moved there after my dad died. Some of the most beautiful scenery within two hours of Dallas. Eight years ago we bought some acreage near there to retire on.

I've since found out that Athens is a hotbed of crime. The meth cookers are in every around Athens, and Henderson Co. has long been considered the meth capitol of Texas. But what's worse are the white collar crooks. They are out to make money for their buddies, and it doesn't matter what they cheat you out of or steal from you to get their way. If you weren't born and raised there, and if you don't play golf with them at the country club on Sundays, stay away. The worst offenders are running the local water district.

I'd also get a second opinion, as the first one you got sounds like there's a back story there that might not apply to everyone.
