Default want to move to the south for grad school

I may have a stereotypical view of the south...people walking around in cowboy hats and boots, sitting on your front porch eating fried chicken. But with that aside, I do have an interest in moving somewhere in the south. I am from Seattle and lived here almost all my life. I really am looking for a change. I feel like I'm really a country girl at heart.

Do you have any advice on what would be some good states in the south to look at? I'm looking at grad school for counseling psychology, and honestly, I haven't been super impressed with any of the programs in texas (no offense to any of your texans!). Any advice for me?

You think people in Mississippi and South Carolina walk around in boots and cowboy hats? I guess US geography wasn't your undergrad major. Many Texans don't consider the state as a whole to be part of the cultural and geographical region identified as "the South". It certainly isn't part of the Deep South. Only about 20% of the Texas landmass falls within an environment and cultural region that has much in common with the states of the Deep South and old Confederacy -- that would be East Texas, east of Dallas and not including Houston from a strict cultural perspective at this point in time.

Rather than fantasize in your stereotypes, why don't you visit the state and see what you think.

And WHY ARE YOU POSTING THIS ON THE TEXAS FORUM IF YOU'VE DISMISSED THE RELEVANT GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN TEXAS???
