They also didn't pass by 2 percentage points and the difference was even lower in Odessa/Ector Co. Yes, I do encourage people to read the article. Just as a personal side note, my dh and I have advanced degrees beyond College and so do most of the people we know. This is an interesting, and even international community of doctors, engineers, geologists, business people, educators etc. I personally know people from India, Israel, Thailand, East Africa, Canada, China and Myramar. If you live here and seek diversity, cultural and educational opportunities you will find it. You just have to put forth the effort which I think is true no matter where you live.

You brush off the high dropout rate as if that is not really that big of an issue. It is a huge problem for Midland and a direct reflection of the community as a whole. That is why I mentioned it in a previous post before the article ever appeared in the Midland newspaper. High dropout rates have been a problem in Midland for a long time.
The original poster was asking about Midland and she needs to have all of the facts before she moves her family and children to a community like Midland. She needs to know Midland does not value education enough to provide public schools that are acceptable to the state education agency

So let’s recap this thread and put it to rest. Let’s see what we have established in the following facts from reports in the Midland Reporter News, the local rag.
There is only one movie theater and they had to close at one point because of safety issues due to pest infestation according to Midland Reporter News. See link below for a link to that article.

The Midland Independent School District, the whole district not just one school, was ranked as Unacceptable by the Texas Education Agency on July 31, 2009. See the link below from the Midland Reporter News for that article.

Midland is the home town of George W Bush. Wow, that says a handful. .
Also if you want to get a local flavor from the online citizens in Midland, please visit their local forum to see what is on the minds of the local citizens of Midland. See the link below for that forum.

So before you relocate to Midland, Texas, you might want to get clear facts about the town.

I can't believe no one from Midland is going to step up and defend their fine city. Of course, the facts are the facts. I was so hoping George W Bush was going to put his presidential library in Midland. I don't think he even considered putting his library in Midland. Such a shame, the city was so deservng of that library.

so much for your promise to put the thread to rest. Anyone with a brain can figure out that you have some other kind of agenda. The thread is over fyi. The people who are seeking info on Midland from people who actually live here are communicating privately to avoid this kind of dialogue. You can move on now.

I guess George W Bush could not put his presidential library in Midland because Midland does not have a four year university, just a junior college. I think Midland, not including the suburbs of Dallas and Houston, is the only city in Texas over 100,000 people that does not have a four year university. Oh well, I think we already established the fact that Midland does make education a priority of their community

Midland College Baccalaureate

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

Not to mention that you can go to almost any college in the country online.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is in Odessa, not Midland. The other deal you mention is not even significant enough to comment on.

So let’s recap this thread again with the false claims the good people of Midland make to try and get you to move to their so called celebrated city claim by claim.

First of all, The city has a four year University, The University of Texas of the Permian basin is in Odessa, not Midland.

“Midland is a part of the Friday Night Lights”.Permian High School is in Odessa and had nothing to do with Midland.

So know lets recap the thread with facts we know about Midland.

The Midland Independent School District, the whole district not just one school, was ranked as Unacceptable by the Texas Education Agency on July 31, 2009. See the link below from the Midland Reporter News.
MyWestTexas.com > News > Top Stories: MISD earns 'academically unacceptable' rating from TEA

There is only one movie theater and they had to close at one point because of safety issues due to pest infestation according to Midland Reporter News. See link below for a link to that article.

Let’s add some additional facts.

The only legend Midland is famous for is spawning the man who destroyed America, George W Bush.

George W Bush’s mother was Barbara Bush, whose maiden name was Pierce. She was a direct descendent of Franklin Pierce, probably the worst president of the United States of all time. Franklin Pierce was a hopeless alcoholic. See link below for his reign of terror on America and link to Barbara Bush’s heritage.

Anyone see in resemblances, lol.

So, you're saying Odessa doesn't play in UIL football competition or that Midland doesn't field a team? Or they don't play on Friday nites? Or it's just an urban legend? Or is that story about playoffs only... playoffs on Friday nites?

Or is your post really just a guise for a Bush bashing?
