Red face Moving to Temple

Hey everyone

I'm getting transfered to Temple and was wondering about any info that someone would like to share. We have two daughters one is 8 and the other 14.. how are the schools??how welcoming are people to new comers?? My husband is a school teacher and I'm a restaurant manager. Would love to hear from anyone that is out there that would like to share some words of wisdom.

Thanks for your time:

I posted on this same issue a couple weeks back and got a couple responses. You might want to do a search for "Temple" and even "Waco" to see the responses.

We're considering a job opportunity to Waco and were considering Temple ourselves, so I'll be interested in the info you get.

Good luck!

Hi. My wife and I moved to Temple in 1997 with no real intentions of staying more than two years. We like it so much that it is now home. Temple fits us perfectly. It is big enough to have some businesses, yet small enough that there is no rush hour. Getting across town takes about 20 minutes or so.

I can't comment on the schools from personal experience. My children are 8,5, and 4, and I homeschool them. I hear mixed opinions regarding TISD. Some are happy and some are disgruntled. Like most things, it is probably what you make of it.

Newcomers are not an issue. Scott and White hospital is a large teaching facility that brings in a couple of hundred new resident physicians every June. Citizens here are accustomed to new faces. It probably helps just because of the "new blood" that is injected into the city. I would not call Temple a dead town. Lots of different people with new ideas and energy.

Lots of new restaurants are here and a few new ones are coming. Where will you be working?

I would be remiss if I did not mention Belton. Temple and Belton are pretty much one big city. The only seperation is a line on a map. They have grown together in the last few years and the city limits are blurred. We go to church in Belton, but live just south of Temple, close to Academy. Our address is Temple, but we are not in the TISD. Since your husband is a teacher I would highly recommend checking out Academy ISD and Belton ISD along with TISD.

Every place has its ups and downs. Temple is not perfect, but we have enjoyed living here and intend to stay until we're gone.

Best of luck to you.

Rick
