Just how bad is Laredo...Really??
My husband has to travel to Laredo for business. Just how bad is it there? We have heard it is very dangerous there. Should he stay somewhere near by and not in town? He will need to go there every other month. He calls on stores like Best Buy, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated.
TIA

Laredo Texas is fine, its across the border ~ Laredo Mexico that he needs to worry about and stay away from. Tell him to stay at a hotel near Mal Del Norte and all should be well.
I am sure he will even enjoy his visit.

Yes, as long as you are on the US side it is fine, not much different in danger than any other US city. It's really Nuevo Laredo (Mexican city) that has been in the news for all the drug violence. However, in recent months Nuevo Laredo has seen a crackdown by the Mexican police & military.. it's practically under marshall law, and the violence has gone down quite a bit as a result.

Thanks for your input. I figured as much. My husbands friend had him all concerned about going to Mcallen too. My husband called me from Mcallen and said it was really actually very nice there and he didn't, in the least, feel he was in danger. I will book in a room in Laredo...in fact LovingSAT, the hotel I was looking at is in the area you suggested.
Thanks again.

We have stayed at the La Posada when visiting Laredo, it is a very nice hotel, reasonably priced. La Posada Hotel and Suites, location on Rio Grande, Laredo Texas

La Posada is awesome, or was. Does it still have the museum?

Definantly recommend La Posada, it is like a nicer version of the Melrose Place apartments LOL.

Im sure Laredo differs no more than the city you are from. The crime rate is actually one of the lowest in Texas.
I have no idea where people come up with these ideas. All I can assume is the news media. It is unfortunate.

Biggest risk in Laredo is heat exhaustion... but that's about it.

Im from Houston, and in Houston you sweat the second you step outside. In Laredo when I visited, I rarely sweat and it was 101 outside.
