Houston doesn't have to think its more international than Dallas, it IS more international by every definition of the word. A day spent at the Galleria is like a day spent in each country across the globe. You'll see culture abound & hear different dialects spoken through out.

Generally speaking, coastal & port cities like Houston, LA, Miami, etc. are more diverse than their inland counter parts...Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, etc.

I agree on Midland-Odessa. I lived in Midland one time and the rivalry between those two cities is noticeable. Most of it seems to be fueled by the sports rivalries between the high schools, especially football of course. Generally speaking, Midland has always been more of a white collar city and Odessa a blue-collar one so that may contribute to the rivalry as well.

No no no rivalry. It's common knowledge knuckledraggers from the Houston area (aka "The Armpit o Texas") are genuinely in awe of our bright lights and sounds of superior Dallas. We don't look down through our noses at Houston Geico Guys like everybody thinks.

Well, it's obvious no one in Dallas is having a rivalry with Houston, being blinded by those bright lights, neon buildings and lesbian law enforcement.

Having spent a great deal of time over/under/around/thru Houston I can say that Houston fairly fails to recognize there is such a place as Dallas, with the exception of the hole in the dome stadium. Houstonians are severely aware of their ties to the Texians quest for independence and being on that trail between New Orleans and San Antonio at that critical time in the birthing republics history.

But you probably could look down through your noses with all that plastic surgery...

By the way, why in the heck does Atlanta have a "Real Housewives" show but Dallas doesn't?

The Best Little Rivalry in Texas - TIME

Ha, got a kick out of that - Dallas Mayor Jack Evans and Developer Trammell Crow both went to my high school in East Dallas (Woodrow) - I knew both of them and this is the way we still talk generations later (as some city-data posters can confirm):

Trammell Crow:"There's no reason to relocate in Houston unless you have to."

"Houston," says Dallas Mayor Jack Evans of the grittier rival city, "doesn't wear well."

I seem to remember that there was even an article about the Midland-Odessa rivalry in Texas Monthly magazine. Been quite a while back, but it backs up everything you say, Dave. Does anyone remember that...?
