Red face Any opinions on Big Spring, TX?

I have a possibility of a job in Big Spring, TX. I am from MI, and love my seasons and my water. I have lived in east TN, to right-wing for me. Can anyone tell me the good and bad about the city- looks big enough for good shopping, close to Albequerque and Dallas... What do you think?

Big Spring is a horrible town that has been dying for the last 30 years, I would avoid Big Spring at all costs if I were you. It is 260 miles west of Dallas and probably 500 miles from Albuquerque.

Big Spring is even worse than Midland. Midland is 45 miles west of Big Spring. See the following link for posts about Midland on the forum.

I had a job offer at the newspaper there a few years back. I know nobody in West Texas and it's way out in the middle of nowhere. I decided against it.

I'd have to get paid a lot more than what a small town paper can pay me to live in a place like that.

I agree, hands down Big Spring is probably the ugliest town in West Texas.

If you think the people in eastern TN are too conservative you probably won't like Big Spring either. The people there are very conservative for the most part. If you like the water, lakes are also fairly scarce in that part of the state.

I live about 87 miles from Big Spring. It looks like it's in the mountains, but it's really in a hole. No water, no lakes, streams or rivers. Big gang problem there. . . they just arrested two juveniles last night that are suspected of 13 arson fires this summer. . .having said that it's also the home of the oldest Harley Davidson dealership in Texas.

Many long years ago I heard of a drug bust that the Big Springs Police Dept made: they raced to the targeted house in multiple cop cars, all with sirens blaring, so that the suspect was alerted and had time to flush their stash down the toilet.
