I think just about everyone knows that gawc is a crap list. There are a bunch of cities on the list that are in strange spots. But go ahead and cling to the only list that puts Dallas ahead. The least credible one.

GaWC is a academic-based thinktank founded and supported by an international panel of scholars and researchers who have dedicated their professional lives to the study of world cities and their global connectedness.

GaWC - Globalization and World Cities

What sources do you consider more "credible"? And, why?

Nice little textbook definition there but that doesn't mean they are the best list out there. they are the worst. the only thing they rely on is the amount.of accounting, law, and banking firms.in a city. they dont account for GDP, they don't account for population, they don't look at research/development, cultural amenities, etc. They have Miami ranked higher.than DC. They have Dubai over San Fran and LA. Really? That list is a joke and I always laugh at the people who still use it. Foreign Policy's list is better. So is the global power city index, the Wealth Report and Global economic index.

Never claimed GaWC was the best. I refuted, and still refute, your statement that GaWC is a "crap list" and is not credible. It's just one of many studies that tie into one another and is used to form a basis for the definition of a global city.

Trae went to the school of Wikipedia for his response. I went there too but graduated earlier.

Global city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trae Im about to get on your case because they dont have washington below miami, Dubai is the fastest growing city in the world and has 2x San Frans Pop., The reason dubai is ahead any way is because of ita world renowned scientific out put and its legacy. The only reason Dallas is ahead of Houston is because its cultural diversity and abundance of wealthy people. They look at all that stuff you said and more. What else is there to look at if you are talking about a city. They also take into accout a cities reputation and role and how they link the world economy. The DFW has the 8th largest airport in the world and 4th largest in the world by aircraft movement but im not done. Dallas has the 3rd largest concentration of fortune 500 companies in the US but it is behind Houston. Despite this The worlds richest company, Exxon Mobile is Headqurtered in The DFW area less than 15 minutes from Dallas in Irving. Im still not done. Dallas has the 6th largest amount of billionaires in the world with 14. Still not done. Despite the fact that Houston has 1.5x the population and land area as Dallas, Dallas makes almost as much money as Houston. If Houston was the size of Dallas It would make no where near the amount of money Dallas makes. Houston should be making 2x the amount of money it is now. Now lets put this in to numbers.

Dallas GDP= 374.1 billion ) Houston GDP= 384.6 billion ) only a 10 billion dollar difference
Dallas Land Area= 385.8 sq mi ) Houston Land Area= 627.8 sq mi ) Houston is almost 2x bigger
Dallas Value per Square Mile= $969,673.41 ) Houston Value per Square Mile= $612,615.48

Don't be daft. Thiose figures are by Metro.

Dallas has more people and more land area than Houston by Metro.

Your reasoning is working against you.

DFW has more land why does it have a smalller gdp?

BTW, Houston's GDP is now over $420B

DFW is just shy of $400B

Yeah that land figure argument he used was weak. I would've bought DART's extensive lightrail system argument over that.

All his arguments are weak.

He doesn't realize that Houston per capita GDP is bigger and has been outpacing Dallas for ten years straight.

He mentions corporate head quarters but didn't realize Houston has more and has been number one for corporate relocations for three years now.

He mentions Exxon is located in dfw but fails to realize that most if Exxon workers live in Houston, along with those of Chevron, Conoco Phillips and a a whole lot from foreign companies Like shell and bp
