Though will admit Austin suffers from too much of that wannabe Berkeley/SF/Cambridge commie ethos which many capitalists despise

Would argue segregation is socio-economic even today in SF/LA/NYC; not really different than Dall/Hou; consider socio-economics of wealthiest guys in any of these towns; where they went to college or where they tend to live or dine...or which private schools/colleges to which they send their kids
You know it is possible to state your political opinion without violence against others. The fact that you choose not to do so reveals a lot about your character and your ethos.

I think often, if you tone down your inflammatory rhetoric, you'd find most people will actually listen to your point of view. But, when you use words like normal to describe yourself and loon to describe me, you've basically backed me into a corner and engaged me in a fight. And then you describe what you've just said as defense. Check the law. It ain't defense if you throw the first punch. You and OdessanInAustin may be different species, but you're drinking from the same glass of Kool-Aid.

Former Odessan in Austin is on a distinguished road
Looks like a lot of people on this thread will be cheering for Tom Delay on Dancing With the Stars. Another village idiot leaves the confines of the state just to embarrass Texas.

Wouldn't you rather him prance around on a second-rate TV show than be in a seat of power in Washington? So what if he makes a fool of himself? He's been doing that for some time, so this won't be any more of an embarassment to Texas than he has already been for many years.

On a side note, what makes you so bitter? You only ever show up to say truly myopic garbage and make broad sweeping generalizations about the people surrounding you. Take a chill pill, Bill.

This does not sound like a very enlightened intelligent community to me. It just sounds like a bunch of hateful people displaying their insecurities and insignificance through hateful remarks made in a gang like attack on a dead man. Way to go Midland, you made Texas proud again.
It only looks that way if you pick and choose the posts there to prove your point. Many of the posters in that forum chose to speak more kindly of the deceased.

Who’s bitter, I am laughing out loud at this thread and the responses. I am also staying on topic giving my thoughts to the OP's original question. The OP wanted to know why Hollywood always portrays Texans as stupid. Do you think maybe that is the way they perceive Texans based on the public figures that the state has elected in the past, or maybe after conversing with a few or for that matter maybe even a lot of Texans they walked away with that impression, or maybe after watching the religious community in Texas try to cram their agenda down everyone else’s throats they got that impression. Ya think. I think.

In Texas, we elect our judges and appoint our dogcatchers. In Connecticut, they elect their dogcatchers and appoint their judges! How wacky, backwards and provincial they are!

Really? Personally I don't think all Texans are portrayed all that horribly, and besides, a buttload of states have elected ridiculous people to prominent positions. I think you are in fact the one who's focusing on the negatives allowing them to obscure your own vision. You seem to think everywhere else in the world but Texas is full of roses and puppydogs, but really you are way off base. Dude, Where's My Car (a movie about absolute morons) was set in California. The Heaven's Gate eunuchs were from California. Senator McCarthy was from Wisconsin. Marion Berry is from DC. James Traficant is from Ohio.

We ain't exactly got a monopoly on stupid or corrupt or dangerously zealous.

And, Waking Life, a movie about Texans set obviously in Texas depicts Texans as rather intelligent people. Same with Reality Bites. Same with a score of others.

Did I say it was a bad idea? Pleas

It's true that the Liberals did make that idea. Liberals are the ones who made that idea but they couldn't do it in Northeast while they forced all the South to integrate, talk about some hypocrisy. Making an excuse based on Economic Stratification is not acceptable, Government has more power than that so they'll integrate.

Don't get me wrong, integration was the best idea.
