Ok...I get the hint (not that it took much!) from fellers like Willy and Stan.

Yep...there ARE a few more tunes that might work for us Texans...

I hope these come thru ok...

That some may have capitalized on it (which I deplore, too), doesn't take away from the fact Lee Greenwood's song "Proud To Be An American" wasn't sung from the heart and....jingoistic? What does that mean? Dictionary defintion is excessively patriotic.

So what? If it makes me a jingolo guy to say it is my country right or wrong, then I plead proudly guilty!

I love our tradition, but would prefer America The Beautiful......with the Ray Charles recording as the official version......

And thanks for listing My Country Tis of Thee......I'd like to think that kids are still singing this in first grade classrooms.....but I guess now it's just live feeds of our Prez.

I too wish they were. We sang "My Country Tis of Thee" all the way through elementary school when we were growing up.

Ditto. Add me to the list of those whose elementary school "music classes" featured "My Country, Tis of Thee"

...Sweet land of liberty...of thee I sing...

and about every other of our American songs. When I was a Brownie leader I had the kids end every meeting singing :"Grand Old Flag" I do not think a single parent or child ever complained.

America has too much tradition and you don't want to mess with it, TexasReb. Keep "The Star-Spangled Banner" as our national anthem.

And I can't believe that some schools have stopped using it in their repertoires. I can't believe what I've just read from some of y'all. Is that right??? Say it ain't so!

I don't think it's a binding referendum in any case.
