I love the SSB! I memorized the words a long time ago, sang it a lot in choir, and still remember them. I too get goosebumps and tears in my eyes when we sing it.

When I taught in school, our students said the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. And... in February when I would teach about our presidents and America, I'd sing the SSB with my class of 1st graders.

I don't think he meant that and you know that as well as I do..

This was not meant to be turned into a political thread. Whether Lee Greenwood sang the song and made a forturne on it, has no bearing on what the song meant to him and to many Americans...

He didn't mean it at the time, but he sure jumped on board fast enough when it meant more royalties.

And jef's right. What does any of this have to do with Texas?

I've/we've been talking about America the whole time. The clips of the Eyes of Texas and Texas, Our Texas, were just a light-hearted addition to a fun and old-fashioned patriotic type thread (or so I thought it would be...when I started it).

Geez, get a sense of humor...

texas, sometimes it is hard for some to see the "light hearted" threads as just that. They take everything too seriously.

You could hardly choose a "light hearted" topic with more political/ideological implications.
