I just graduated from college with a B.S. in Accounting and I am seriously considering moving to Arlington, Texas, probably closer to the Mansfield area. My sister lives there and is a Nurse. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how the job market is for accountants? I also have 3 young adults that will be moving with me, one that is a senior in High School. Are the mansfield schools as good as I have heard? Thanks for any information you would like to share with me.

There won't be many jobs in Mansfield. You'll need to go to either east or west into Dallas (Irving) or Ft Worth where most of the corporate jobs are. Mansfield is mostly houses and retail.

I just moved to Arlington and love it. I lived in Grand Prairie, which is just next door. It is between Fort Worth and Dallas so you have lots of options for jobs in either direction.

If you move to Arlington, I would highly endorse Southwest Arlington as a place to settle in. The city's best schools are in that area (Martin High School), and there are lots of amenities closeby. Good neighborhoods.

You'd be best off posting in the Fort Worth forums, located within the Texas forums. You'll get lots of good local responses there.

As with any populated area, you have your best, better, and worst areas. I agree with case44. The area around Martin is one of the better. My daughter lives there and it is nice. She used to live not too far from 360 and it was nice, but not as nice as where she is now. Unfortunately, people are what make or break a neighborhood.

I've lived in southwest Arlington for over 30 years. I like the area. My house was the 2nd one on the street when it was built. So, I've watched the area come into its own.

Martin HS is a good school with relatively few problems. Mansfield schools are good, too. One of the really good things about this part of Arlington is that it's literally a hop, skip and jump to I-20 which takes you into Ft. Worth or Dallas. Thus, the job market is expanded by that easy access.

I would definitely stay clear of 360 unless you look south of I-20. The west side of 360 is Arlington (Taylor County) and the east side is mostly Grand Prairie (Dallas County).

I worked for the same government agency for 37 years but I worked in Ft. Worth (downtown), south Ft. Worth, west Dallas, Grand Prairie and Arlington. All the office locations were easy to get to.

I can't speak to the availability of jobs in accounting but I can tell you that Texas has been one of the least hard-hit by the economy. You'll be able to find a job, I'm quite sure, because your geographic area of consideration will be quite large....the DFW Metroplex.

It's Tarrant County, not Taylor County.

The schools in Mansfield are really as good as you have heard. I'd love to furnish you all information you are looking for on the Mansfield area. Also, there are great neighborhoods that are actually Arlington or Grand Prairie but go to Mansfield schools. [mod]see comment[/mod]
