We've been in Texas 12 years now, Arlington, 1997-2003, Bridge City, 2003-2008 (Wiped out by Hurricane Ike), Beaumont, 2008-2009, and finally resettled in Hunt County on Lake Tawakoni, April 2009.

Retired now, and have no immediate plans to move again!

Although I ended up in Ohio, Texas has been home to me on several occasions. I took my USAF basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Loved S.A. but, boy, seeing the Alamo in person was a letdown after all those John Wayne movies... From basic, I spent several months at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls (Wish I'd seen more of the town besides the Trailways station) And in the mid-1980s, I spent a VERY enjoyable two years at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio (Before the drug war spilled across the border)

Once I retired from the USAF, I started trucking and delivered and picked up from Paris to Harlingen, from El Paso to Houston and many places in between.

I also spent Summers with relatives that lived in University Park (Dallas metro) My dad was born & raised in the Big D and my sister graduated from SMU. (I went to the School of Hard Knocks...)

Big Spring as for Texas.

Arkansas, Oklahoma, Virgina as for the outside world with time in Louisiana, Tennessee, Missouri and Switzerland.

Please see my posting for "Which town in east Texas would be better for me."; I can use the info and feedback on my choices.

I was born and raised in Texas!

Here's the places I used to live there:

1. Lumberton- (1976-1982). Very small town. Lived there from the time I was a baby, to Kindergarten, and up to half of the 1st grade. It's grown some since the early 80's when I lived there. My childhood best friend and her parents still live around there.

2. Beaumont- (1976 was born there; 1982-1986). Born here (at Baptist Hospital)!! We moved to Beaumont when I was in the middle of 1st grade til I was in the middle of 4th grade. I loved it. Great Cajun restuarants and the people are so friendly. My mom still lives there.

3. Livingston- (1986-1995). Where Lake Livingston is. Lived the rest of my childhood and teen years here. Not much to do there, but we did lots of fishing and swimming there during the summers. Livingston High was a great high school (we had a great track team, when I was there. I was a member of it! We went to state 2 times, in my 4 years at that school).

4. Ft. Hood/Killeen- (1996-1998). Lived here from 1996 to 1998, when I was in the Army. I left in 1998 when I got orders to go to Korea. Pretty good town, but there was some gang violence there, when I was there in '96.

But I've been to many places in Texas (but never lived in them). I have family scattered all over Beaumont, Port Arthur, Nederland, Woodville, and Port Neches. Been to these towns/cities also (a million times I guess). My grandmother (who was full-blood Cherokee Indian) lived in Silsbee, Texas when I was growing up, until I was 12 years old when she passed away.

I've been through Dallas/Ft. Worth, El Paso, Abilene, and many other little small desolete towns in Texas. I have traveled a lot.

I lived in Plano as a kid back in the 70s and attended Meadows Elementary. I went to high school in Austin in the mid 80s (St. Stephens), then onto College Station (A&M) and now in Houston for the last 18 years.
