Iliya, I hate to disappoint you, but there is no "greater city" of Italy.

It's basically a stop in the road on I-35 with a few of those dome houses, and a few gas stations. They may have put up a Holiday Inn Express within a few miles the last few years, but your best chance for lodging would probably be in Waxahachie or Hillsboro, both of which are at least 30-40 miles away, at best recollection. Just about anywhere you lodge, you'll need to rent a car to get there.

Anyone else want to chime in with more recent developments in the Italy area? I've been gone two years.

Here are some links:

Mapquest map from Waxahachie to Italy:

Here' some places semi-nearby:

America's Best Value Inn Waxahachie (795 South I-35E
Waxahachie, TX 75165
United States)

Sleep Inn (Waxahachie) http://www.sleepinn.com/hotel-waxaha...t5=1&nchild5=0

Hope this helps. Good luck!

There is one motel, the Igloo Inn, in Italy, Texas. There are three more about 6 miles away in Milford.

Italy was the childhood home of Dale Evans, wife of Roy Rogers.

Went through Milford today on the way to the farm, not much there. I would recommend Waxahachie also, nice town & give you a few things to see & do.

Before you come all the way to TX I hope you've investigated those dome houses. Those things have been out there for years and don't seem to have ever taken off.

But I'm not real familiar with them but been driving by them for the last 30 years. There may be a market somewhere.

Waxahachie will be about 20 minutes away on I-35 or US77. Here's a list of hotels in the area...

On I-35:

Texas Inn
Knights' Inn
America's Best Value Inn
Best Western Gingerbread Inn
Super 8

On US287 and US77:
Hampton Inn and Suites
LaQunita Inn and Suites
Holiday Inn Express
Sleep Inn and Suites

There are also a number of B&B's and some corporate housing options as well. You may also check with Southwestern Assemblies of God University, too. Empty dorm rooms can equal cheap lodging if available...

So this Bulgarian born... Japanese dude can visit Italy....stay in an Igloo & tour the childhood home of America's favorite Cowgirl.

If he's able to get a sushi kolache down the road in West, he'll really be in business.

There is also a dome house manufacturer in White House, Texas......near Tyler, TX. They looked very promising about 25-30 years ago but never did seem to catch on. I haven't seen a new one constructed anywhere in many years.

Dome Houses are for rent in Milford and Italy. As far as hotels go, Waxahachie and Hillsboro are your best bets. The Motel 6 in Hillsboro is just as expensive as the other hotels, figure about $45-$60 a night no matter where you stay.
