Default Sharyville (Mission, TX, McAllen, TX)

I came across quite of bit of decently-priced housing in Sharyville. Is this one of the safer and better areas in this region? (Mission, TX/McAllen, TX)

Is it recommended that I settle down in this area, or would it be better to stick to the North McAllen areas?

TIA.

It's Sharyland (a planned "master community" within Mission), and is marketed to be a much more upscale area than what it is. There seems to be quite a bit more crime--home invasions, police chases, etc. in the Mission area. I know one person there who had to defend his family against home invaders and another one there who refers to it as "the hood". Don't believe all the marketing hype. I've noticed the people on this board who tout Sharyland don't live there.

Sharyland is a district within Mission and Palmhurst. The Palmhurst area has several gated communities inhabited by many affluent people. Certainly, Mission is no shining star, and neither is Palmhurst by itself. Both areas contain wealth and poverty.

Sharyland is a very nice area. I do recommend it, but Mcallen's not bad either. The home invasion reports usually are in north mission by 5-8 miles north of the expressway, because over there there are many distances between houses and some of those "rich" looking houses don't belong to legit people, if you know what i mean.
