It seems Arlen is a short distance to Dallas, Houston, and Austin since the Hills take quick trips to all three!

It's probably closest to Garland, TX, where Mike Judge lived for awhile. The 70s-built homes, alleyways, Walmarts and Asian population can be found in droves in Garland. There is even a park with the "rocket" playground nearby from one of the episodes (or at least there once was). Also a bit of Austin, where he lives now... but judging from the plots, it's probably supposed to be set maybe 100 miles from Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. Likely in the central/NE part of the state, given that they don't seem to go to Houston much, and everyone is hardcore Dallas Cowboys fans. Also the natural scenery and weather looks to be north Texas, almost Oklahoma-like. Flat, and without huge trees like you might see in and around Houston.

But as another poster mentioned, there are tons of small towns like that in Texas.

There used to be a rocket ship slide in Heights Park in Richardson, but it was removed last summer to loud objections from locals:

It's got to be near Dallas because the local school is called Tom Landry Middle School and that would only happen in a Dallas area school.

I would agree with the Dallas area assessment except that they had to 'travel' to go up to North Texas (which Hank later dubbed 'South Oklahoma') and stay at a motel.

And they seem to hop-skip-jump over to Houston.

Then again, I think they fly out of DFW.

That's the one. I used to play there as a kid. Sorry to see it go, glad KOTH immortalized it, in a way.
