That is what amazed me when we moved here! and they really celebrate the kids achieving good grades. My son tries harder to get that praise. Anymore it seems the athletes are celebrated for their feets- but how refreshing to see academics get rewarded!!
My boys can play up and down our street and I don't have to worry. The other moms come over to chat- small town feel out in the country, LOL. I even hear the cows mooing from across the highway

If I were just moving to Texas and looking for a smaller town, but somewhere still relatively close to a large city, I'd look around Austin, personally. You don't get much smaller, close-knit, or beautiful than the towns in the Texas Hill Country, IMO.
