Lookin At Texas
okay i'm a new yorker, but a country girl at heart.
i'v always wanted to move to the south, and finally i have the chance.
i am 24 years old, single and looking for the following in a place. if you think you know of a good place for me, PLEASE TELL
*a lot of friendly people, people that basiclaly know you so preferably a small town, but not TOO small.
*not a city feel, more of a small town feel. with quaint little shops that might sell nick-nacks, a supermarket, some restaurants, some places for a young girl to hang out.
*horseback riding is a major plus. i would LOVE to have a house with a stable sometime in my future. i'v taken lessons for a few years now.
*a good community, low crime-good schools, etc.
* i like the outdoors. so the more there is to do outdoors the better for me.
if you know of ANY PLACE. please tell all =) thank you.

Hi country girl, i'm 26, so maybe I can help you a little. I think a good area for you would be in the region which is known as the "Texas Hill Country". It's the most beautiful area, but prices are increasing. The whole region is horse friendly. The towns are: Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Wimberley, Comfort and Bandera (probably the most horse friendly town).
Now, if price is an issue for you, then aim for the Texas Pan Handle. I'm not too familiar with the towns there, but you'll find the most typical Texas stereotypes in that region (cowboy hats, accents, horses, windmills, etc).
Good luck and keep me posted YOu may want to check my blog in my profile.

lol, as I was reading her post, Bandera was the first place that came to mind when she mentioned horses. There is a 'saloon' there where you can still tie your horse up out front .

Trainwreck,
I'm still looking around for some land and even started looking out of Texas. Something interesting: Texas actually has pretty low prices on acreage even in the hill country compared to other states. I was always under the impression that the hill country was higher than usual, but it's not. Lots of other states have about the same prices and more even for remote land out in the mountains. Heck, even Canada land is getting up there.

Check out Lubbock, Texas!
Lubbock, Texas- my beloved home town! It's in the "Panhandle." We live in Dallas area now and have for years but not necessarily by choice if you know what I mean. Too much water under the bridge and too many friends here to go back now, but I still think Lubbock would be a great place to live again. Lubbock is friendly, has lots of amenities of a larger town but still not too large (200,000 pop. I think roughly) Maybe you're looking for smaller than that?... Has Texas Tech University. And low humidity!

Stephenville has a lot of rodeo folks and a university. I don't really know much about the town, however.
